"What are we doing here?", was a question asked by one of the Color Guard members, wondering what battle it was they were celebrating. Actually, it wasn't a battle at all, but to celebrate the adoption of a document crafted by the Patriots of "The Old North State" declaring their Independency from England. The date of the document appears on the North Carolina State flag, April 12, 1775; it predated the Declaration of Independence, crafted by Thomas Jefferson, by almost a year. The North Carolina Patriotic Organizations are justifiably proud of this bold statement for freedom, and equally proud of their ancestors who fought to back up their words with action.
